GA-RASCOE

We had four retirees to attend the NASCOE/RASCOE Convention in Omaha. Although there were not as many people at this convention as some we have had in the past, it was a very good convention. Nebraska employees went all out making us feel welcome. Hotel accommodations were great.

Part of the fun (if you could call it that) was in getting there. Two of us flew out of Atlanta and in order to get reasonably priced plane tickets, we first had to go to St. Louis then to Chicago before getting to Omaha. Another of our group flew out of Jacksonville and she will have to tell you the tale herself. Then, the 4th flew out of Valdosta and what a tale she has to tell. It was all worth it to be able to visit with friends we have made over the years and to learn the latest as far as RASCOE and FSA are concerned.

In our RASCOE meeting, it was reported that RASCOE has experienced more legislative activity than we have for some time. Part of this was because RASCOE retained a Legislative Consultant. At present, most things seem to be on hold due to the current political activity. We are expecting to make progress when Congress is back in session and look forward to the coming months to see what happens with legislation of interest.

In August 2009, the NASCOE Convention will be in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. That is a great place to vacation. There are many good shows available, Dollywood if you are so inclined, and over the mountain in Cherokee the casinos, that is in addition to the convention itself. Make your plans now to meet us in Gatlinburg. Come prepared to have a good time.

We are sorry to hear about the death of Kenneth York, retiree from GA State Office and former CED. He died August 29, 2008, after an extended illness. Kenneth’s son is Alan York, CED, Jefferson County. Condolences may be sent to Alan at P. O. Box 213, Louisville GA 30434. Our sympathy is extended to Kenneth’s family.
